From the founder
In 2020, I was diagnosed with stage three triple negative breast cancer. I spent the following year in treatment, in Melbourne, during lockdown.
The medical care was excellent. It was everything around it I couldn’t hold. I would sit down with my questions ready and watch them leave me the moment the doctor began. What had been said slipped away on the walk home. Before every scan there was the dread, and after it the waiting. The information was all given to me. I just couldn’t keep it, through the shock, the chemo fog, and words I had never heard before.
My mum was my carer, and she carried it with me. After every appointment she rang everyone who wanted to know and told the same story again, and again. I watched it wear her down.
I started building Naia because I wished we’d had an assistant to help us manage it all. Keeping the notes, holding the questions, letting the people who loved us know. I felt steadier whenever I knew where things stood.
I hope it makes treatment a little easier.
